Avis Jamaica Rental Terms

Age Information
The minimum age is 21 for all car groups.  The maximum age is 80 years.

 

Additional Drivers
All drivers must meet the same minimum age and driver’s license requirements as the renter.  There is no additional driver fee.

A pre-authorization hold is applied to the credit card at the time of the rental for the rental amount.  A security deposit will also be held on the credit card.  See Waiver Protection Options or check with the reservation center for additional details. Please note: While this hold is in place, the funds will not be available for your use.  

 

At the end of the rental, the credit card is charged for the rental amount, and the pre-authorization hold is released for the full value of the security deposit:
    1. Provided that the car is refueled.
    2. Provided that the car is returned at the agreed location, date and time.
    3. Except for your amount of “responsibility”, if any, in the event of damage/loss as specified on the rental document and depending on your coverage selection.  
Please bear in mind that although we process the reversal at the end of the rental, your bank may take time to post it back to your account.

 

Prepayment
Cash Rentals are not allowed.
Travel Vouchers: Avis and Avis-honored vouchers are accepted as payment only. Renters must also present an Avis-honored credit card to be used for the security deposit.  (See Additional Charge Card Hold information.)


Debit Cards
Debit cards are accepted provided that:
    • The card bears the Visa or Mastercard logo.
    • Debit card name and billing address match renter’s driver’s license information.
    • The minimum hold on the debit card will be equal to the security deposit.  The debit card hold is the same as the charge card hold. 


Please note the following exceptions: 
In some instances, depending on the bank, the customer may be allowed to settle the rental with a debit card that is not a part of the Visa or MasterCard network.  However, these cards may not be used for the security deposit.
Additionally, Visa debit cards issued by some local (Jamaican) banks may not be used for the security deposit.  It is recommended that the customer contact the rental location directly ahead of the rental if a debit card is to be used for any part of the transaction.

 

Taking your vehicle outside the Country
Cars are not allowed outside of the country.

 

Waiver and Protection Options
The renter is financially responsible for the cost of loss or damage (up to the full value of the rental car) in the event of an accident or theft.  Our waivers (LDW & PDW, below) allow you to reduce this responsibility.


Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) 
LDW relieves the customer of financial responsibility for the vehicle in the event of loss of damage to the rental car or theft (any single event).
A security deposit of 200.00 USD (all car groups will apply).   Note: There is a minimum 3-say rental restriction to purchase LDW.  Please check with the reservation center for additional details.


Partial Damage Waiver (PDW) – Counter offer
PDW reduces the renter’s financial responsibility depending on the car group selected, in the event of damage or loss to the Avis car.  A security deposit of 900.00 USD to 3000.00 USD is normally held on the credit card.  
Theft Protection (TP) is not available.


Damage to people and their property - Limits of Liability
*Amounts listed are subject to currency fluctuations.
    • Third Party Property Damage (in respect of a series of property damage claims arising out of one event) = 7,500,000.00 JMD
    • Third Party Bodily Injury (in respect of death or bodily injury to any one person) = 7, 500,000.00 JMD
    • Third Party Bodily Injury (in respect of death or bodily injury claims arising out of one event) = 7,500,000.00 JMD 

 

Protections & Coverages – Additional Information
Avis waivers are not insurance and they are not mandatory; therefore, our waivers may be declined.  However, if the renter declines our waiver, Avis reserves the right to request as a guarantee, a security deposit or credit card authorization (hold) that may be equal to the value of the car.
Please note that if the renter intends to use a credit card that offers car rental insurance as a benefit, the security deposit may be reduced to a nominal amount of 200.00 USD provided that the renter presents proof of coverage in writing (e.g. Letter of Coverage) stating that the policy is valid in Jamaica.  Please be aware that many credit cards and insurance policies issued outside of Jamaica do not provide coverage in Jamaica at this time.
It also is important to consider that if the Avis waiver is declined, the renter is responsible for the full cost of damage to the rental car up to the full value of the vehicle.  Avis rental agents are not qualified to assess the validity or suitability of any coverage not sold by Avis.  As such, we strongly recommend that the renter fully understand the terms and conditions of any benefit provided by the credit card issuer.  If there is a claim for damage/loss, and the renter intends to use the coverage benefit provided by a card issuer or other approved insurer, the renter is ultimately responsible for any portion of the claim not settled by the card issuer up to the full value of the vehicle.

 

Driving License and ID Requirements
At the time of rental, the driver must present a valid driver’s license in the driver’s name from their country of residence.  Customers presenting a driver’s license in a non-Roman alphabet must also present an International Driving Permit (IDP) to serve as a translation in addition to their valid driver’s license.  

 

Fuel Charges
The vehicle is rented with a full tank of gas and must be returned with a full tank of gas or there will be a charge for refueling. If you have refueled please keep your receipt for verification purposes.

 

Delivery and Collection
Complimentary delivery and pick-up service is available within a 15 mile (24 km) radius from the rental station.

 

No-Show/Cancellation Policy
Reservations for all car groups will be honored for up to 8 hours after the reserved time or until closing, whichever comes first.  A no-show fee does not apply.

 

Special Equipment
Child Safety Seats (infant, toddler, booster) – are available.  An advance reservation of at least 24 hours is recommended.  Cost is 5.00 USD per day, maximum of 25.00 USD. Loss/Stolen Fee is 200.00 USD.
Navigation System – is available.  An advance reservation of at least 24 hours is recommended.  Cost is 11.00 USD per day. Loss/Stolen Fee is 200.00 USD.
Other equipment by be available, check at the counter upon arrival.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund Policy
In the event of cancellation, any deposit amounts paid at the time of booking are non-refundable. 

Disputes
If you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
